Human Library

Check out this "book"

Rochester Public Library, South Avenue
January 25, 2014 1:00pm - 4:00pm

Check out a human “book” at this Human Library event co-organized by the University of Rochester River Campus Libraries and the Rochester Public Library.

A Human Library is a way for community members to connect with volunteer storytellers, or “books,” they wouldn’t otherwise have the chance to meet. You’ll learn about the books’ incredible life experiences and special interests. On the shelf at this Human Library: a woman who grew up in South Africa under apartheid; a former teacher who underwent a gender transition; and a Vietnam War veteran who said “no” when too much was asked of his sense of mortality. Human Libraries promote tolerance, celebrate differences, and encourage understanding of people who come from varied cultural or lifestyle backgrounds.
