Helen Zakin collection of books on stained glass

Helen Jackson Zakin was a professor of art at SUNY Oswego, specializing in medieval stained glass and internationally known for her research on Cistercian grisaille glass.  In 2010, Dr. Zakin donated her comprehensive research collection to the Robbins Library.  Hundreds of gorgeous books and many stained glass journals were packed up and transported from Oswego to Rochester by Russell Peck, Valerie Johnson, and Barbara and Alan Lupack.  After we shifted to make room and entered the books and journals into our system, they were shelved in their new home. Duplicates of books that we already owned went to the Art/Music Library on the River Campus or the Allen Library at the Memorial Art Gallery.

Helen worked with the Corpus Vitrearum Medii Aevi, which (according to their website) "is the international research project dedicated to recording medieval stained glass." She helped compile one of the first of their U.S. series, the 2-volume Stained Glass before 1700 in the Collections of the Midwest States (2001).
