Note: Biographies of major dance figures may appear in general biographical sources as well. To locate these, ask at the Reference Desk or contact the Staff online.
Rhees Stacks: Search the Voyager Catalog by type of dance, dancer, choreographer, or company name in Author, Keyword, Subject, or Custom Search. Most dance resources are in call numbers GV 1500-1900 and are shelved on level 300, but others may fall into categories such as music, various martial arts, anthropology, history, and theater.
Sibley Music Library: Sibley books and journals are listed in the Voyager Catalog with Rush Rhees books. You can use Request This Item in Voyager to have a Sibley book or article sent to Rush Rhees for you, or you can go there on the UR shuttle bus.
If we don't own a book you'd like to use, you can request it through Interlibrary Loan. The first time you use this service (or right now, if you wish), you'll need to register. Enter your NetID and password and the form will come up on the screen. After that, your NetID and password will take you directly to the Request forms.

As soon as you link, change Entire Collection to Dance Research Collection (near bottom of list). Identifies articles in dance journals, books, videotapes, archival materials, etc. Some older material is only listed in print indexes, below.

To find a particular journal, search the Voyager Catalog by Journal Title. We will have many of the general periodicals that review dance, and some of the Dance-Related Journals, though dates vary. A few titles are available online, usually just for recent years. Voyager will provide a link.
If Sibley Music Library subscribes, we can get those in 4-5 days using the Request This Item forms in the Voyager Catalog.
If we don't subscribe, we can get most articles through Interlibrary Loan in about 2 to 4 days.
Dance & Dance-Related Videos in the Multimedia Center on the Ground Floor of Rush Rhees, and those in Sibley Music Library, are included in the Voyager Catalog. To limit your search to DVDs and videos only, use the yellow Limit box in the lower right. Click on DVD/Video.
Another way to limit these is to use the DVDs and Videos link from the library's home page. You can then Limit by Genre to Dance or Martial Arts, or can enter a keyword such as tai chi, yoga, ballet, etc. , to narrow the search or to look for non-dance movement styles, or music. This list may not include every DVD and video, especially those with foreign language titles, but will list many of them quickly.
These sites have links to dance companies and resources by type of dance, and to organizations, newsgroups, publications, and/or event calendars. Be aware that web sites vary in quality. Many are better for checking performance and touring schedules than for scholarly or critical information:
