The library collections in Rush Rhees date from 1850 and have been built over the course of more than 150 years in support of teaching and research at the University of Rochester. The Rush Rhees Stacks alone contain over 3 million items.

History

Designed to serve as a centerpiece of the River Campus when it was dedicated in 1930, Rush Rhees Library retains its classical ambiance and its miles of bookshelves. Its many carvings, inscriptions, and stately interiors are a true scholar’s delight.

Services

Library staff is key to making the collections and resources come alive for our community. Subject librarians are on hand to consult on any research project. All staff are ready to help find resources of all kinds wherever they may be located, whatever the format.

Spaces

All of our libraries house many books, periodicals, and other materials—but they also provide spaces where students engage in the process of becoming part of their chosen discipline.
