About me

Hello. My name is Heather Owen, and I am the Data Librarian for all disciplines on the River Campus. I assist students, researchers, staff, and faculty in the humanities, arts, social sciences, natural sciences, and engineering with any data questions they may have.. At the River Campus Libraries we define data as being any type of raw material that can be used in research or in discovery. Please feel free to make an appointment with me.

When it comes to research data management and sharing, I can assist you with the following:

  • Creating and reviewing research data management and sharing plans.
  • Managing, organizing, documenting, naming, cleaning, and structuring data
  • Using DMPTool, ICPSR, LabArchives, Protocols.io, DataCite, OpenRefine, RStudio, Tableau, and Excel
  • Choosing and using a data repository, such as Figshare, Dryad, OSF, etc.
  • Understanding data management and sharing policies (i.e., NIH)

I am also available to run training sessions for research groups, organizations, and classes. Please feel free to contact me if you are interested in a training session. We regularly host data workshops and events, so keep an eye on the events run by the River Campus Libraries.
